INTERVIEW :
Can you present yourself in a few words?
I'm an illustrator from Toronto, Canada. I got my start in t-shirt design, participating in sites like Threadless and DBH.
What is your artistic background?
I've always loved to draw ever since I was a kid, but my formal training came at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto.
We moved around quite a bit when I was a kid, so my imaginary world became something of a home base for me. I think all artists
are kind of like snails or turtles: they carry this imaginary world around with them like a shell or a movable home.
Can you describe your artistic style?
Nostalgic, vintage, and a little bit dreamlike. Although I enjoy playing around with an image digitally, my foundation is always traditional
media: pens, pencil, ink, pencil crayon. There's something about the tactile interface that a piece of paper provides between the artist's
hand and their imagination. It's physical and analog, like a stylus meeting vinyl..
What are your inspirations, references?
The natural world of animals and birds, and the surreal world of pure imagination and whimsy. I like top hats and vintage scenes,
steam punk, and have always enjoyed a good pop culture mash-up.
Do you have some future projects?
I'm really excited to be working on a children's book right now with my brother Terry. So far the response has been incredibly positive
and I'm looking forward to throwing my heart into it and creating something magical.
It's great to have my work featured on Wall Editions! Thank you for letting me be a part of your website.
I'm humbled to be in the company of other artists I admire.
